Liz's Lasagna
Description
Lasagna is the ultimate comfort food. My lasagna sauce is made with beef and Italian Sausage. Serve with garlic bread and a nice bottle of chianti.
Ingredients
- 3/4 box lasagna noodles (12 noodles)
For Sauce
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 ground beef
- 1/2 lb. Italian sausage casings removed
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup chopped parsley
- 2 (28oz) cans crushed tomatos
- 2/3 cup tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 Tablespoons dried basil
- 1 Tablespoon dried oregano
Filling
- 16 ounces Ricotta Cheese
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
- 16 ounces shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Methods/steps
- In a saucepan heat olive oil and add the first 5 ingredients. Cook, stirring until beef and Italian sausage are brown. Drain grease and return to pan.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Bring to boil. Reduce heat to simmer. Stirring occasionally, cook for 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with 1 cup of sauce and remaining Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil: to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese.
- Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour or until a thermometer registers 145F. Remove foil and add remaining mozzarella cheeseCool for 15 minutes before serving.
Additional Tips
I usually make the sauce the day before.
