This Russian Recipe was emailed to me by a work/travel student of mine from Volgograd Russia. Yana submitted her mother's, Margarita Kotlyarova, recipe for cake with a cream filling. Sounds yummy!
Cake
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup white sugar
- 100 g margarine (a little under 1/4 cup-.88 of a stick)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
Cream
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Cake
1. In a large bowl, mix together eggs, sugar, margarine and honey.
2. Warm to boiling (do not boil).
3. Add soda and warm until scum.
4. Add flour and stir thoroughly.
5. Divide into 4 parts and roll dough out.
6. Put each part on a preheated lightly floured baking sheet.
7. Bake until golden brown. (163-177C) or (325-350F)
8. Between parts spread cream.
Cream
1. In a bowl, cream together sugar and egg until light and fluffy.
2. Add milk and flour, stir thoroughly and boil till soft.
3. Let cool, then mix with butter.
4. Stir in chopped bananas and lemon skin, vanilla.
Use condensed milk for the top.
Decorate with nuts, chocolate and other stuff.
